Melton Hill Lake

Located on the Clinch River, Melton Hill Lake -- also known as Melton Hill Reservoir -- stretches almost 57 miles upstream along the Clinch from the Melton Hill Dam to Norris Dam. This reservoir is not used for flood control, unlike other Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) reservoirs. The lake is amenable to boating, swimming, and rowing and especially for fishing, since water level fluctuations are minimal.

Fishing

Although Melton Hill Lake is "home to the Muskellunge" (muskie), state record fish caught in this lake include a 10-pound, 12-ounce saugeye in 1998 and a 28-pound, 12-ounce brown trout in 1988. A 60.5-pound striped bass caught in this lake once held the world record for landlocked stripers. Other game fish include crappie and bass. Currently, there is an advisory against eating any catfish from this lake.
