Lake Secession The City of Abbeville, South Carolina, built completed the construction of Lake Secession Dam -- also known as Rocky River Dam -- in 1940, creating the reservoir that became Lake Secession. The lake is located downstream from Broadway Lake on Rocky River, near the Richard B. Russell Lake's backwaters. Boating The lake contains one access point that includes two ramps, located off Highway 184 in Abbeville County near the northern end of the lake. Some commercial interests provide boat ramps for a fee. There are no motor restrictions, but boaters need to be wary around coves and at the upper end of the lake. Many tree stumps remain, and boaters can see some of them poking out of th water in these areas. |

Lodging There are no state parks within Abbeville County, but Parsons Mountain Lake National Forest is located in Abbeville County. This undeveloped area has 20 campsites, but none of them have hookups and no pets are allowed. Other accommodations in Abbeville County include hotels and motels, B&Bs, and several inns. Review the Lake Resource Guide for additional lodging. Communities Lake Secession is located mostly in Abbeville County, but it also extends into Anderson County. It is located about eighteen miles south of Anderson, and about 20 miles northwest of Abbeville. The lake is situated south of Greenville, and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is located in Greer. Several airports within the Abbeville region are large enough for Southwest Airlines' service. |
