Lake Secession

The City of Abbeville, South Carolina, built completed the construction of Lake Secession Dam -- also known as Rocky River Dam -- in 1940, creating the reservoir that became Lake Secession. The lake is located downstream from Broadway Lake on Rocky River, near the Richard B. Russell Lake's backwaters. Extending six miles along Rocky River, the lake covers 1,425 acres and has over 52 miles of lightly developed shoreline.

Fishing

Although a smaller reservoir, Lake Secession is a fertile lake and it provides anglers with plenty of warm-water game fish. The city of Abbeville maintains an excellent fishery here for black crappie and largemouth bass, as well as catfish and bream. There are two fish attractors in this lake, clearly marked by buoys. Several shops around the lake offer all the fishing supplies you might need, including licenses.
