Clendening Lake
One of the state’s prettiest waterways, Clendening Lake is Ohio’s largest lake preserved in nature. The only commercial development is the full-service marina. Peace and quiet prevail over 1,800 acres of Lake Clendening's unspoiled fishing waters. A cornocopia of trees and abundant natural beauty define 44 miles of shoreline, revealing little sign of civilization. The lake is.a paradise in which to boat, fish and swim. Clendening is the number one lake for bass fishing in Ohio. Well known for its fine populations of largemouth bass, flathead and channel catfish, crappie and saugeye, the lake is most alluring to fishing enthusiasts. Fishing Channel catfish angling is just as good as the bass fishing. Nearly 60% of the fish sampled by the ODOW were at least 16 inches and 6% of them measured 28 inches or longer. The flathead catfish are in the lake’s lower end hiding on the rocky bottom. They can easily reach the 20-pound range. The Ohio state record for Shovel / Flathead Catfish was caught in Clendening Lake in 1979. It weighed 76.5 lbs and was 58 5/8" long. |
