Lake Taneycomo In a chain of four man-made lakes which include Arkansas' Beaver Lake; Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals Lake.both of which lie in both Arkansas and Missouri; Lake Taneycomo lies totally in Missouri. With the Army Corps of Engineers' completion of the Power Site Dam on the White River, now privately owned by Empire Electric Company, Lake Taneycomo was created for power generation. Located in the Ozark Mountains near Forsyth, Missouri in Taney County, Lake Taneycomo covers 2,080 acres with recreational waters best known for maintaining superb quality and sufficient quantities of trophy trout. The lake is 22-miles long with a 40-mile shoreline, most of which is privately-owned property. Wading-in and fishing from shore is limited to public property in state and city parks along the lake. Additional shoreline fishing is available at any of the many public trout docks available around the lake. When Table Rock Dam is generating power its exceptionally strong current and decreased water temperature makes the lake behave like a very deep, cold, fast running river, which is when wading and bank fishing for trout is the best. Much care should be taken due to the fast currents. Fishing Hybrid striped bass were stocked in Lake Taneycomo from 2005 though 2009. Since then, hybrids have thrived well growing up to 24 inches long and weighing as much as 7 pounds! Lake Taneycomo’s clear cold waters provide the perfect habitat for producing some of the finest trout available in the world. The rainbow trout and brown trout that inhabit Lake Taneycomo tantalize anglers looking for exciting and diverse fishing experiences all year round.
