Taylorsville Lake

Located mainly in Spencer County, Taylorsville Lake's 3,050 acres also spill into Nelson and Anderson counties. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed this lake beginning in 1974 by building a dam on the Salt River, and impounding began in 1983. The lake today is a major recreational destination for residents and tourists who visit Taylorsville, located just 25 miles south of Louisville.

The 1,200-acre Taylorsville Lake State Park surrounds the lake, and the Army Corps of Engineers maintains a visitor's center while the Commonwealth of Kentucky maintains a park office on the grounds. You can find hiking and horse trails, along with camping, RV sites, equestrian sites with electric and water, and primitive tent sites available. A marina offers boat rentals, open and covered slips, gas, food, and fishing supplies and equipment.

Fishing
The lake's main attraction is fishing, as this lake is the most heavily stocked lake within Kentucky. Known for its bluegill, bass, and crappie, anglers also can find catfish and freshwater drum perch. Boat ramps are available in the northwestern part of the lake as well as upstream at Chowning Lane and Van Buren.
