The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created Grayson Lake in 1968 by impounding the Little Sandy River. The lake is a major attraction for Grayson Lake State Park, a Kentucky state park in Carter County, Kentucky, near Grayson. The park has an area of 1,512 acres, and the lake consumes 1,500 acres of that park. Park activities include boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing and golfing -- the park's rolling terrain offers challenging play on a 18-hole golf course that circles the lake.

Fishing
Fishing is extremely popular during the summer months. Anglers have access to bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. Trout are stocked in the downstream areas. Launching ramps provide boaters access to the lake along a 74.2-mile shoreline that ranges from gentle slopes to scenic canyons. Other lake attractions include boating, camping, skiing, and swimming.

The Grayson Lake Marina, located three miles from the park at the Grayson Lake Dam site, is operated by a private concessionaire. Boat rental information is available at the marina and through the Corps of Engineers' information center at the dam site Recreation Area.
