Eagle Creek Lake

Eagle Creek Lake and Park, owned and operated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Parks and Recreation, is situated in central Indiana 10 miles northwest of Indianapolis in Marion county. The centerpiece of Eagle Creek Park (the sixth largest municipal park in the nation), Eagle Creek Lake / Reservoir provides 1,350 acres of recreational waters in which to fish, boat, sail and swim.

Kayaks, canoes, Hobie Cats, sailboats, pontoons, wind-surfing boards and pedal boats are available for rent, and operating lessons are offered. Other activities available in the park include picnicking, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, archery and cross country skiing.

Fishing

Being located so close to the capital city, Eagle Creek Lake is often overlooked as the prime location it is for catching several species of gamefish. After years of the DNR stocking the lake with walleye fingerlings Eagle Creek Reservoir is becoming known as a hotspot for catching the marbleyed walleye.  It is not uncommon to catch a few six to seven pound walleye in the spring and fall. The reservoir also houses largemouth bass, channel catfish, carp, white crappie and bluegill.

Because of boat size and motor restrictions, whether fishing from a boat or shore, anglers do not have to compete with speed boaters, jet skiers, tubers or water skiers anywhere on the lake.

Boating

Frequent host of the U.S. Rowing National Championship, Eagle Creek Lake welcomes anglers and boaters.

A ten horsepower limit for motorboats and a 26-foot length limit for all boats, is strictly enforced on Eagle Creek Lake, which helps to ensure a quiet and relaxing outing on the water.

The larger boats must have a small electric trolling or gasoline “kicker” motor to use for propulsion.  A public boat launch ramp is available for accessing Eagle Creek Reservoir near the bait shop.
