George W. Andrews Lake George W. Andrews Lake, originally the Columbia Lock and Dam when it was completed in 1963, was renamed in 1972 for Congressman Andrews. Managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, this reservoir is located south of Lake Walter F. George along the Chattahoochee River olong the Alabama-Georgia state line. The purpose of the George W. Andrews Dam is for river navigation, but the lake also provides some good fishing. The dam is short, so the lake is narrow. Although the lake is deep enough for pleasure boating and water skiing, this narrow layout can make for some crowded weekends for anglers. Despite the fact that this lake is one of the least visited impoundment project along the Chattahoochee River, it is a popular water recreation spot on summer weekends. The shoreline is mostly undeveloped, and fishing early or late in the day can provide some peaceful opportunities. Fishing Since the banks and waters of the Chattahoochee River form the boundary between Alabama and Georgia, several areas are affected by fishing license agreements and some areas are not covered by reciprocal licenses. In most cases, creel and possession limits are the same along this river in both states. |
