Blue Mountain Lake The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impounded the Petit Jean River to create Blue Mountain Lake in 1947. With approximately 50 miles of shoreline and 2,880 surface acres, this lake offers plenty of room for fishing, boating, and swimming. Located between Mount Magazine -- Arkansas's highest mountain and the venue for this states newest state park -- and the Ouachita Mountains, the lake also offers plenty of hiking and camping possibilities. The Blue Mountain Wildlife Demonstration Area is located at the west end of this lake, providing a world-class bird dog field trial area that attracts visitors from all over the world. Fishing |

Boating The main access point to Blue Mountain Lake is located at Waveland Park, and Lick Creek and Ashley Creek provide limited access. |
Lodging The Corps of Engineers offers modern campgrounds at the Outlet Area and Waveland Park that provide both tent and trailer spaces as well as electric and water hook-ups, showers, boat ramps. parking, fish-cleaning stations, and many other amenities. Mount Magazine State Park is located a little over 26 miles from the north shore of the lake via AR Highway 10. This is Arkansas's newest state park, providing a luxurious lodge with incredible views, cabins, camping, and a restaurant. Booneville and Danville offer other lodging possibilities, and both towns are located about 30 minutes from the lake to the west and east, respectively. Communities Blue Mountain Lake is located in Yell and Logan Counties, Arkansas, near the towns of Booneville, Magazine, Danville, Paris, and Waveland. Although several municipal and regional airports are located near the lake, the closest domestic carrier is located about 50 miles to the west in Fort Smith. |
