Mitchell Lake Located along the Coosa River between Lake Jordan and Lay Lake, Mitchell Lake is a reservoir situated east of Clanton in Chilton County, Alabama. Offering 147 miles of shoreline, this reservoir was constructed by Alabama Power originally for flood control and to supply hydroelectricity to central Alabama. The lake has since become popular for boating, swimming, and fishing.

Boating Mitchell Lake sports public and private boat ramps and several private marinas that also have ramps. Higgins Ferry on the west side of the lake and Barrett's Fish Camp on the lake's eastern shore are popular access points. Anglers and boaters can find topographic maps at local marinas and sporting goods shops. |

Lodging Although Talladega National Forest is located about two hour's drive from Mitchell Lake, other campgrounds closer to the lake are available. Visitors also can find vacation lake house rentals and hotels are available in Clanton.
