Boating The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (AWFF) provides seven access points to Lay Lake. Beeswax Creek, located east of Columbiana, provides a two-lane boat ramp and two fixed docks. Boaters can find the other ramps in downtown Childersburg on the Talladega Creek; Glover's Ferry, located five mouths south of Logan Martin Dam; Kelly Creek, also located below Logan Martin Dam; Paint Creek near Hidden Valley; Lay Lake, located eleven miles southeast of Columbiana; and, Lay Dam. |

Lodging Oak Mountain State Park is located just south of Hoover, Alabama, along I-65. This park offers a wide variety of day use activities, and also provides camp sites and cabins for overnight stays. Hoover also has hotels. If you want to find camping near the lake, you can look at private interests between the lake and I-65 at Calera or at Talladega National Forest. Other towns along the lake that provide accommodations include Sylacauga, Childersburg, Calera, Columbiana, and Clanton. Review the Lake Resource Guide for additional lodging. Communities This lake borders five counties (St. Clair, Talladega, Shelby, Coosa, and Chilton) and is very close to towns with amenities. Lay Lake is located just one hour from Birmingham, and is close to the south end of the Talladega National Forest. Nearby towns include Sylacauga, Wilsonville, Columbiana, and Clanton. Childersburg, located at the north end of the lake, claims to be the oldest city in America. |
